This JAVA, Snickets Studios was filled with energy, laughter, and endless creativity as we hosted our Teen Art Camp! Over the course of the vacation, 13 amazing young artists joined us, each bringing their own spark of imagination and talent. Watching them grow, experiment, and create was nothing short of inspiring, and it has me so excited for the upcoming term!

What We Created 🎨

We packed so many fun activities into our sessions, making sure every student got to explore different materials and techniques while letting their creativity shine. Some of the highlights included:

🎨✏️Mixed Media Paintings

Students combined textures, colors, and materials to create expressive works of art that were uniquely theirs.

💎Diamond Art Coasters

A fun, sparkling project where patience and precision paid off with dazzling results.

🌈Tie-Dye Tote Bags

Bursts of color turned plain tote bags into wearable works of art, each one as bold and bright as its creator.

🐲Dragon Puppets

This was definitely a favorite! The teens had a blast designing and building their own playful dragon puppets, each with its own personality.

📚 Custom Bookmarks

Perfect for our book lovers, these personalized pieces became little treasures to take home.

More Than Just Art ✨

While the projects were incredible, the best part of camp was the community we built. The students encouraged each other, shared ideas, and filled the studio with so much joy. For me, as their teacher, it was a reminder of why I love what I do, seeing young people express themselves freely and proudly through art.

And on our very last day, we celebrated everything we created together with a little party full of snacks and treats. It was the perfect way to wrap up such a fun and creative camp, and the students loved ending on a sweet note!

Looking Ahead 🍂

As we wrap up this unforgettable JAVA, I feel more inspired than ever for the upcoming September term. If Teen Art Camp showed us anything, it’s that creativity thrives when students are given the tools, space, and encouragement to explore. I can’t wait to see what our students will create next!

👉 Registration for our September term is now open! If your teen would love to be part of our creative community, don’t wait—spots always go fast.

There’s something special about putting pen to paper. No erasing, no do-overs — just you, the ink, and the adventure of seeing where each line takes you.

Welcome to the wonderfully bold world of pen and ink drawing — where even "mistakes" turn into part of the story, and every mark has a little personality of its own.

So... Why Pen and Ink?

It's expressive, it's honest, and it's got attitude. If pencil drawing is like a soft whisper, ink is a joyful shout from a mountaintop! And the best part? You don't need to be an expert. Whether you've been drawing for years or you're just staring at a blank page wondering where to start, pen and ink is all about the process —not perfection.

✒️ It's All in the Line

This isn't just doodling (although doodles are totally welcome). With the right techniques, your pen can do so much more:

  • Hatching - Simple lines, big shadows

  • Cross-Hatching - Crisscrossing lines for richness and drama

  • Stippling - Tiny dots = big patience! But oh, the textures you'll create.

  • Scumbling - Controlled scribbles perfect for fur, clouds and fabric.

  • Ink Washes - Add water to ink for soft tones and gradient magic.

Why I Love it

✅ Bold and beautiful. The ink on paper just pops

✅ No fancy setup. Just a pen and a sketchbook.

✅ No erasing = total freedom. "Oops" moments often lead to the best surprises.

✅ Therapeutic AF. Repeating lines or dots? Basically, art therapy. Trust us, it’s better than scrolling TikTok for the 78th time today.

What You’ll Need to Start

  • A few good pen (I love Microns)

  • Smooth sketch paper (like a trusty Canson sketchbook)

  • Optional: white gel pen for highlights

  • A brush and some water if you want to try ink washes

  • Courage, curiosity, and maybe a cat who insists on sitting right there.

💡 Pro Tip: Start Small, Dream Big

Seriously — draw your keys, your tea mug, your shoe. The more you play, the more your confidence will grow. Sometimes the most unexpected drawings turn out to be your favourites.

👩‍🎨 Final Thoughts: Ink is a Vibe

Pen and ink isn't about getting it "right" — it's about having fun, being bold, and letting your lines tell their own story. Whether you're sketching something realistic or totally weird and wonderful, there's power in committing to every mark you make.

So go ahead — pick up that pen, take a deep breath, and just start. You might just surprise yourself. ✨

Ready to dive deeper? Come join one of our Pen & Ink Workshops at Snickets Studios! We'll go overall these techniques and more together — and yes, there will be laughs, ink smudges and probably snacks.

1. A Palette of Self-Expression:

Visual arts provide us with an incredible way to express ourselves. It's like having a personal language where we can splash colors, create shapes, and tell stories without uttering a single word.
